Home > Lawn Care Yellow Pages AdvertisingConfused by Yellow Pages representatives telling you
how much you "have to" spend to stay competitive? Don't listen. They're selling space and they don't know the lawn care business. At Barefoot Grass, we ran side-by-side tests on the effects of Yellow Pages advertising that included ad size. A full page ad did not pull any more than a 1/4 page ad. A 1/4 page ad didn't pull that much more than a 1/8 page ad which didn't pull that much more than a bold listing. For lawn care providers the need for an ad in the book only comes once a year (spring) and then people don't usually look-it up in the book--they consult with neighbors, family, or respond to an ad or a telemarketer. It just doesn't make sense to pay hundreds of dollars every month for something that doesn't work every month and the month that it might work, it doesn't pull. The Yellow Book doesn't pay for lawn care providers.
If you offer landscape services or pest control, that's a different story and requires a larger ad, but for lawn care, don't waste your money on a quarter page or larger ad. In fact, a bold line of type is about all you really need if you advertise in other ways. |
Why not yellow? Most people don't let their fingers do the walking when it comes time to chose a lawn care provider. Competition is stiff and most lawn care pros are getting their message in-home at the right time so there's no need for a consumer to look in the book. |
